WHAT STAFF NEED(S) WILL THE WORKSHOP MEET?
I face a range of challenges in my role as a PAT: students bring both academic and personal problems to me & I need to know what to do, or who else might help them. I need to improve student retention. How can I plan a programme of support to help my PAT students succeed?
THROUGH THIS YOU WILL …
Explore both the responsive and proactive aspects to the PAT role.
Under the title ‘The Responsive PAT’ you will evaluate study skills activities & resources you could recommend to students, & discuss appropriate responses to typical problems PAT students present.
Under the title ‘The Proactive PAT’ you will collaborate to develop plans a programme of activities & strategies adapted to the needs of your own context & students to improve student confidence & study skills.
THIS WORKSHOP WILL DEVELOP SPECIFIC SKILLS ALIGNED WITH THE UKPSF:
MAIN AREA OF ACTIVITY: A4 - The workshop addressed the crucial role of PATs in the broader course learning environment & the role involves both effective response to presenting problems & proactive planning to anticipate study needs, maximize student achievement & enhance employability.
KEY CORE KNOWLEDGE: K3 - The workshop deepens understanding of student learning, their development needs and the challenges & problems they may face during their course. Participants develop strategies for both responsive & proactive approaches to student support.
PROFESSIONAL VALUES: V1, V2, V4 - Both individual needs & typical challenges faced by particular student groups are explored (V1), as are factors in students’ life situation and employability needs (V4) which impact their learning. Strategies are explored to promote student engagement & aid retention (V2).
